District 36 Strategic Plan and Portrait of a Graduate

The Winnetka Public Schools community has shared a deep commitment to Progressive Education for over 100 years. Our School Board, administrators, and staff are honored to continue our history of excellence by cultivating rich experiential learning opportunities and fostering the academic and social and emotional skills that our students need to thrive now and into the future. To further advance this important work, the District embarked on an ambitious Strategic Planning process starting in March 2020 with the involvement of over two-thousand contributors representing students, staff, parents, community members, and alumni. One of the results of this process is the District’s Portrait of a Graduate:

Run-a-Thon

The Annual Crow Island Run-a-thon is one of the PTO’s largest fundraising events of the year and is a school tradition dating back to 1985! This outdoor event engages the Crow Island community in a common goal around developing a healthy and active lifestyle while supporting the PTO and a local charity.

During the Run-a-thon, kids are encouraged to run or walk 30 laps around an assigned track. In the weeks leading up to the event, kids request using this link and track donations from family and friends to support their participation in Run-a-thon. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the Misericordia Special Olympics Track & Field Team.

There are many ways for parents to participate: make a donation, volunteer to help during the event, and/or attend the event to take pictures, cheer on the runners, and be part of the fun! Parent volunteers are crucial to the success of Run-a-thon!

Date: Thursday, October 10th

9:00-9:30 AM Kindergarten
9:45-10:15 AM 1st Grade
10:30-11:00 AM 2nd Grade
12:45-1:15 PM 3rd Grade
1:30-2:00 PM 4th Grade

**In the event of rain, the event will take place on Friday, October 18th**

2024 Chairs: Lindsay Abert, Lauren Lewis, Ashley Sutphen, and Julia Bonamarte

Run-a-Thon Donations

Welcome to Crow Island’s Run-A-Thon Donation Page!

I’ll run! Will you help me raise?

Hello! I am participating in Crow Island’s Run-A-Thon this year to help raise funds for the Misericordia Special Olympics Track & Field Team and to improve our school. I am going to try my best to complete 30 laps around the track at school on October 10th!

Will you please help me and donate in my honor?

Teacher & Staff Appreciation

Ongoing Teacher & Staff Appreciation

The Teacher & Staff Appreciation Committee conveys special expressions of gratitude (and treats!) to Crow Island’s wonderful faculty and staff throughout the year to show them our appreciation for their dedication and hard work. It offers lunch and refreshments to staff members as needed throughout the year (holidays and in-service days).

2024/2025 Ongoing Teacher & Staff Appreciation Committee: Jackie Hairston (chair), Amy Jennings, Jennifer Page, and Julie Nilan.

Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week

The PTO also plans a week of festivities and gifts for our fantastic teachers and staff from May 5th-9th. We are so lucky to have amazing staff at Crow Island who teach and care for our children each day.  To show our appreciation, we spend a week each year showering them with love! We need your help to make Staff Appreciation Week a success. Please look out for an email from your room parent to sign up to help.
