Student / Parents Partnerships on Trashless Tuesday’s

The intention of Trashless Tuesday is to build a habit of avoiding packaging waste where possible.  All Crow Island parents can encourage an environmental partnership with their student by participating in Trashless Tuesday’s.   Each Tuesday pack your child’s lunch in a reusable container.  Opt for a thermos or re-usable sports bottle instead of a juice box or plastic bottle.  Instead of using pre-packaged lunch foods, such as packaged apple slices or individually wrapped string cheese, pack a whole apple or cubed cheese in a re-usable container.  Even a fabric napkin instead of a paper napkin can make a difference.

Reusable Products

Pottery Barn Kids Stainless Food Containers

  • My favorite because the lids are easy on and off.
  • Many moms recommend Pottery Barn for both stainless steel and the Spencer containers, as well.

The Container Store  – A variety of choices

Kleen Kanteen – Water bottles with screw-on lids. They are dishwasher safe and stand up to the roughest Murphy child. Pop up lids are not recommended, as they often leak.

Kids Contigo – The best water bottle.  The only thing that Teresa drinks from at school.

Rubbermaid containers – They have lunch sets.

Cleaning Products

BabyGanics Cleaning Solutions – Smell nice and are kid and pet friendly.  You’ll feel safe about your children helping you clean up around the house.

Twist Euro Sponge #10 – (Available at Whole Foods) – 100% biodegradable and they clean, wipe and dry!  They are slimmer than most sponges so they dry fast which I like.  They are white and show stains after a while, but usually clean up well in the dishwasher.

Ecover – Dishwashing detergent and other varieties

Method  – A wide variety of choices like dish, laundry and hand soaps – I stopped using soaps with Triclosan.
